Following the very sad passing of her brother, the owner of the Irish Tavern, Georgina Doran, wanted to hold a fundraiser in his honour. She chose Samaritans in Spain as the charity to donate the proceeds to.
The event took place on Sunday 21st April on a beautiful sunny day. Just as well, as the place was packed and spilt out into the outside terrace. It seemed like the whole of Albir had come out to show their support and generosity. They were treated to an incredible atmosphere with a host of live musicians providing the entertainment.
With more than 40 prizes on offer in the raffle, a huge number of tickets were sold - both beforehand and on the day itself. For the lucky winners, vouchers donated by various local businesses were their reward! In addition to the raffle, there was also a high ticket auction, including the option to bid on designer handbags, luxury jewellery, and sportswear.
Such was the enjoyment of the revellers that the event ended up going on into the early hours - now that's what we call stamina!
Overall, the event raised a staggering 7,000€, and we at Samaritans in Spain are extremely grateful. This included a 1,000€ single donation from Gary on behalf of Giving4Giving.
Our thanks go to everyone who helped with the organisation, to the hard-working bar staff, to the businesses that donated raffle and auction prizes, and to every person who attended and made it such a success.
